Favorite photo destinations in Ecuador

These are my absolute favorite photos taken in Ecuador, including a map of the exact location where the photo was taken.

This was the first country I traveled to with an actual camera, instead of taking photos on my phone. Needless to say, I took A LOT of photos here. It helps that the country is so photogenic, so I had the best time exploring the country with a camera in hand.

Scroll down to find photos and exact locations of:

  • Waterfall in Mindo

  • Inside a church in Quito

  • Waterfall ‘Pailón del Diablo’

  • Volcano Chimborazo

  • Street market in Cuenca

  • From a rooftop in Cuenca

  • Beach crab in Las Tunas

Waterfall in Mindo

‍This photo was taken during an easy waterfall hike. I first took the ‘tarabita’ up and then walked the 35-minute hike along Ruta 3: the route with the most waterfalls. I was here at the beginning of May, at the end of the rainy season, so it was as green as it gets. Read more about my visit to Mindo here.

You can find the exact photo spot here.

Inside a church in Quito

I went for a walk around the city and found the biggest church in Quito: Basílica del Voto Nacional. Inside, they were working on the mosaic.

You can find the exact location here:

Waterfall ‘Pailón del Diablo’

Baños de Agua Santa is a gorgeous place in the center of Ecuador. The literal translation is baths of holy water, and a visit to this waterfall will definitely feel like taking a bath. I would recommend staying at Great Hostel Backpackers; their beds are lovely!

This is the photo location:

Volcano Chimborazo

We took our motorbike on the ‘via Ambato Guaranda’ to get closer to Chimborazo. A very comfortable ride, with each turn offering a better view of the volcano.

This is the spot where I took the photo:

Street market in Cuenca

Cuenca is a big colonial city in the southern part of Ecuador. It’s a great city to explore by foot. You’ll find indoor and street markets everywhere. You can read more about my experiences in Cuenca here.

I believe that I took this photo on this street:

From a rooftop in Cuenca

El Cafecito is a hostel in the very center of Cuenca. They offer nice private rooms and have a great rooftop across from the famous Mercado 9 de Octubre. I recommend this place to anyone!

The photo was taken from that rooftop:

Beach crab in Las Tunas

A very small and quiet place on the coast. It’s between the better-known cities of Montañita and Puerto López, and perfect for calm days on the beach, crab watching, and surfing. I started keeping a diary when I was here, cause the quiet will make you do that. You can read it here.

You can find Las Tunas here:
