Nature & Wildlife Belize
Belize’s inland nature feels quiet and dense, yet full of life. Close to the Guatemalan border, the landscape changes from an open coastline to a thick jungle, where ancient history and wildlife exist side by side.
I stayed in Bullet Tree Falls and Santa Elena, both near the town of San Ignacio. Here, I visited Maya temples, saw iguanas and howler monkeys in the nearby trees, and spotted many colorful birds. I hiked through forests and relaxed in the river whenever the temperature became too intense. Along the edge of a pond, crocodiles were resting in the sun, including their tiny babies (if you look closely, you can see them in one of the photos). And as dusk fell, an owl appeared, watching silently from the trees.
