Antigua
Exploring coffee shops in Antigua, a cat café and making new friends.

I arrived at my hostel in Antigua, Guatemala. I have no idea what I am gonna do here, but I am so tired right now that I can’t be bothered to think about it. It’s nice too, cause all the touristy stuff I will do with my sister, when she’s here in three weeks. So I can fully relax without worrying about missing out on things. And I get to do some research before Zussie is here, which will make our travels much easier.
Anyway, I’m probably going to extend my stay at this hostel cause it looks NICE. It’s super clean, with a rooftop, hammocks, a kitchen where you don’t have to do your own dishes, a small working area, and hot water in the shower. I mean, it’s basically everything you want! And look at this view from the rooftop!

This was such a nice day! Donna, a girl from my dorm, told me she was planning on going to a cat café this afternoon. So naturally, I couldn’t stay behind. It’s a CAT CAFÉ. Those are like the happiest places on earth. And this was the happiest of the happiest.
The café was so big. A huge garden with a lot of places for the cats to play and lie, an inside seating area with a big couch for the cats to watch TV, and an area for the cats to get some quiet away from the humans. Just ✨purrrrfect✨. And I found out they also offer volunteer options! They have another house where they take care of about 80 cats and 20 dogs. This café houses 27 cats. And the volunteering is basically just hanging out with the animals and giving them some love. So cool! It’s definitely something I’ll consider doing in the future!

I just made myself dinner. Yes, this is worthy information, cause I rarely cook for myself. But especially since I don’t have to do any dishes here, I thought it would be a great place to start cooking. And the cooking itself, I don’t mind, it’s the dishes that annoy the shit out of me. I also need to book my next accommodation, and I think I’ll just go to the coast right away. I already booked my stay for Christmas at a hostel in El Paredon, a coastal town here in Guatemala. And initially, I thought I would go to the lake for a week before going to the coast. But I am really not feeling long travel days and would love a vacation vibe. So beach it is. I think. I’ll search for some options tonight.

Today was the last day Donna was here in Antigua, so we spent the day together going to different coffee shops and visiting some ruins. Apparently, the city is full of them, both coffeeshops and ruins.
And we found out that Donna and I like to spend our days in a very similar way. It’s so nice when you meet someone with whom you instantly click. We bonded over our love for cats, and I guess that goes deep, haha. We had so many interesting conversations, and while our ‘struggles’ in life are different, we understand and respect both. And she is just a really kind and nice person. So I’m really happy we got to know each other and spend the day together.

I thought I’d go for a walk and see where it would take me. Which was super nice cause I ended up going to an art gallery and an art museum. And I listened to piano music while walking around. Total rom com moment. And of course, afterwards I went to a coffee shop, a different one this time.

So I’m walking around town to make some videos cause I had this idea about sharing my poetry differently. In a sort of cinematic movie kind of way. In my head, I see exactly what it should look like, but now that I’m making the videos, I think it’s gonna be harder and way more time-consuming than I thought. But maybe I should just make a few, and then it will be easier as I go? Who knows, but I’ll probably only find out if I try.

I’m at a coffee shop - surprise, surprise. AND there is a cat. And out of all the people in the café, he chose me to sit next to. YAY. I’ll only be here for a little while tho, cause this afternoon I’ll go to El Paredon, a small town at the beach!
I’m so looking forward to this. Two and a half weeks at the beach. And then I’ll pick up my sister in Guatemala City so we can go to Livingston the following day, which is also a beach! Just on the Caribbean side, and El Paredon is on the Pacific side. So excited!
